University heritage collections
The university collections are inherited from the collections of the Académie. They have been enriched by donations from German libraries after 1870, purchases made by the National and University Library, and documents gathered in the institutes that developed within the University thanks to internationally renowned professors. These collections are considerable and largely unpublished.
Some of these documents are intrinsically linked to the history of Alsatian universities and the various courses taught there: inauguration celebrations for the German and then French universities, medical dissertations defended in the 19th century, original plans of the Palais universitaire by its architect, inauguration speeches given at the opening of various chairs, as well as a guide to the famous university archaeological museum, testimonies from Strasbourg academics interned in the concentration camps, archives and notebooks of archaeologists, etc.
