The BNU keeps the documents from the personal libraries of philosopher Jacques Maritain (1882-1973), his wife Raïssa (née Oumançoff - 1883-1960), and her sister Véra Oumançoff (1886-1959).

The personal documents collection gathers some 42,000 letters from Jacques', Raïssa's, and to a lesser extent Véra's documents; these represent recevied correspondance as well as draft letters, to and from almost 6,000 different people.

We progressively digitise and upload them onto Numistral, in accordance with copyright law. The digitised letters that are still under copyright may only be read from inside the building of the BNU during opening hours.

You may request a digitised copy of the letters from the BNU using our contact form.

For any publishing project involving reproduction of one or more documents from this collection, queries must be addressed to both the BNU and the Cercle d’études Jacques et Raïssa Maritain, which holds copyright for this collection.
